Alitalia has hired Emirates' Italy general manager, Fabrio Lazzerini, to be its new chief commercial officer.
Lazzerini confirmed the appointment, which came into effect yesterday, via a retweet on social media.
"I am ready to put my energy and my expertise to this challenge to revive one of the most important assets of our country," Lazzerini was quoted to say by Italian publication Guida Viaggi. "I believe strongly based on the competencies that characterize Alitalia at all levels."
Alitalia, which filed for insolvency after rejecting a restructuring bid led by Etihad that would have cut upto 2,000 jobs, is currently inviting binding offers for a full takeover.
