Cebu Pacific, Philippines’ largest carrier has sent its first batch of cadet pilots to participate in an intensive aviation training program at Flight Training Adelaide (FTA) in Australia.

Selected from an application pool that numbered over 12,500 applicants, the batch of 16 cadet pilots will spend a total of 52 weeks at the FTA campus.

Upon completion of their training, the cadet pilots will return back to the Philippines, where they are expected to complete type-rating and licensing requirements to become commercial pilots. Upon graduation, the pilots will become First Officers at CEB, and join the corps of aviators at Cebu Pacific.

The successful candidates were chosen following a lengthy and comprehensive screening and testing process, which also included medical and physical examination.

Commenting on the opportunity, cadet pilot Ian Juan Carlo Wage, said: “I joined the program because I knew that it would change my life. Aside from being able to travel, and learn and experience new things, I want to pay my mom and dad back for their hard work, and give them a good life as well.”

Working in close partnership with FTA, Cebu Pacific’s cadet pilot program will select a total 240 candidates over a five-year period. A total of 48 candidates are expected to be sent to Australia each year for the $25m program.
