India’s regulatory body for civil aviation has suspended two pilots of a Jet Airways flight as their plane overshot a runway at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on August 3.
A senior official at India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said, “The DGCA has suspended the licence of both the pilots involved in the runway excursion incident at Riyadh, pending investigation.”
According to a Jet Airways statement, the incident occurred on Friday. Flight 9W-523 went off the runway following an aborted take-off.
There were no casualties and all the 142 passengers and seven crew members of the Mumbai-bound flight were evacuated safely.
The Aviation Investigation Bureau (AIB) of Saudi Arabia is investigating the incident jointly with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of India.
