An in-house application by Emirates Airline will allow passengers travelling through Dubai International Airport (DXB) to expect fewer delays associated with aircraft turnaround, the airline announced on Wednesday.

The application – dubbed Hub Monitor – is currently being used by Emirates operational staff in Dubai to share and monitor real-time information on the activities being carried out to prepare an aircraft for departure.

These activities include the cleaning of aircraft interiors, flight catering and meal loading, refuelling, luggage handling or the servicing of an aircraft’s auxiliary power unit, or APU.

Using the application, teams from departments including engineering, network control, airport services, flight operations and dnata operations keep track of turnaround activities, while also being alerted when there is a delay or deviation to above or below wing activity against a pre-set precision timing schedule (PTS).

These alerts allow teams to quickly identify and resolve the root causes of potential delays. As the system is mobile enabled, staff deployed on aircraft, ramps or other remote areas can also easily access the information.

“The Hub Monitor is a unique and innovative tool developed in line with our vision to improve our operations resulting in better passenger experience,” said Adel Al Redha, Emirates executive vice president and chief operations officer.

Al Redha added that Emirates’ operations and IT teams developed Hub Monitor in five months, building upon an existing solution previously developed by Emirates Engineering.

According to Emirates, it currently takes about 105 minutes to turnaround an Airbus A380 in Dubai and 90 minutes to turnaround a Boeing 777.
