UAE emergency airlift arrives in Jordan

Following an order from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai on Sunday, an emergency airlift of humanitarian aid was sent to Jordan.

Landing in the early hours of Monday morning, the supplies were distributed to citizens affected by the recent floods in Jordan.

According to Dubai Media Office’s official twitter handle @DXBMediaOffice, the operation is being overseen by Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Chairperson of International Humanitarian City.

Princess Haya is working closely with the National Crisis Centre in Jordan to coordinate efforts in distributing the much-needed supplies.

Comprised of more than 58 tons of food and medical supplies, as well as field shelters, were transported from the UAE to Jordan on a Boeing 747 and a C130 Hercules transport aircraft.

According to reports from local media, the death toll from the flash floods has risen to 12, and approximately 4,000 tourists have been evacuated from the area surrounding the ancient city of Petra.
