Air India is looking at the possibility of leasing five Jet Airways aircraft and hiring hundreds of its staff in the wake of the airline’s collapse, according to Indian media reports.

According to the Times of India, Air India has informed the State Bank of India that it is examining the prospects of leasing five Jet Airways Boeing 777 aircraft to service international routes such as Dubai, Singapore or London.

Additionally, the newspaper quoted an Air India spokesperson as saying that the airline had advertised to hire 400 cabin crew staff, 150 of which were formerly employed by Jet Airways.

An anonymous Air India official quoted by the newspaper added that a number of pilots and maintenance staff had also approached the airline, but that it still has not formulated a plan to absorb pilots.

The airline is also offering special fares to passengers booked on Jet Airways passengers who had booked return tickets through April 28 on 19 international routes, according to the Indian Express.
Spicejet recruit pilots, employees

Another Indian airline, budget carrier SpiceJet, announced that it has recruited 500 Jet Airways employees, including 100 pilots.

Last week, Jet announced that it was halting all operations after failing to secure emergency funding from lenders after it has asked a consortium of lenders led by the State Bank of India to provide $57.5 million.

The airline is currently under the management of the consortium, which has proposed to offload between 32.1 and 75% to a qualified investor.

The Indian Express has reported that so far four or five expressions of interest (EOI) have been received by the lenders.

The process is expected to conclude by May 10, the newspaper added.
