GTA dnata, dnata’s joint-venture firm in Canada, has been awarded IATA’s Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics (CEIV Pharma) certification. The accreditation was awarded for the company’s pharma handling processes and facilities in Toronto.

IATA’s CEIV Pharma program introduces a set of global standards for ground service providers to follow with the handling of pharmaceutical products in order to comply with current worldwide regulations.

A key focus area for GTA dnata, the company has of late moved to expand its capacity with the launch of a 45,000 square foot warehouse designed specifically for overseeing temperature-sensitive freight. The new facility is set to launch in February 2019.

Mario D’Urso, chairman & CEO of GTA dnata, said: “The CEIV Pharma certification is a significant milestone for us as it reaffirms our commitment to achieving excellence with regards to safety, security, compliance and efficiency in the handling of pharmaceutical products. Our teams invest a great deal of effort to safeguard the integrity of medical products, and this certification provides further assurance of the high quality of our services to our customers.”

Established following dnata acquisition of a 50% in GTA Aviation’s cargo and ground handling operation at Toronto Pearson International Airport back in 2016, GTA dnata today provides ground services to a total of 15 airlines at the airport. The company handles more than 24 daily flights, assist 4,800 passengers and oversees the movement of 148 tons of cargo each day.

Other recent developments within Canada’s aviation market include dnata’s plans to launch flight catering operations with a facility in Vancouver. Set to be staffed by over 100 employees, the CAD $7m facility will have an initial capacity of up to 8,000 inflight meals a day.
