Aiming to bolster its workforce across its home markets of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium with fresh talent, Lufthansa Group has kicked a massive recruitment drive that could potentially see the employment of almost 5500 employees in 2019.

The group is reportedly in search of over 1,300 flight attendants, particularly for its Munich hub and at SWISS in Zurich. Lufthansa itself is targeting roughly 1,200 hires to fill out key business roles at both its Frankfurt and Munich hubs.

In an effort to meet future flight operations demand, Lufthansa Group has moved to invest roughly a quarter of billion euros in this area. In addition to hiring 600 employees to oversee the quality of operations, roughly 500 pilots are set to begin their training as flight students with Lufthansa Aviation Training at the European Flight Academy in 2019.

On the technology side, Lufthansa Group has moved to hire over 600 IT specialists in Germany, while at the same time “Die Technik” is looking for over 1200 colleagues in Germany. The latter also includes several hundred operational employees, 400 direct entries, as well as more than 200 apprentices.

Currently, the globally operating aviation group has over 500 job profiles spread across 550 subsidiaries and affiliates. In 2018 alone, over 170,000 applications were submitted to the group’s career portal, Be-Lufthansa (

Commenting on last year’s draw of applications, Bettina Volkens, chief officer of Corporate Human Resources and Legal Affairs at Deutsche Lufthansa AG, said: “This shows once again how popular Lufthansa is as an employer with its various business areas.”

Boasting a diverse global employee base that hails from 147 countries across the world, the group also prides itself on offering equal opportunities for all genders.

“Equal opportunities for men and women at every level, that is what I stand for and that is what I stand up for,” added Volkens.

“We offer a highly professional environment, attractive employment conditions and are a standard setting in professional training. Moving forward, we plan to bring even more young employees into the company than before as well as promote our talents through a wide range of programs.”
