Turkish video-on-demand service, BluTV has completed its 3rd year with record-breaking numbers.
Established in 2016 to bring Turkish content all around the globe and to become the largest OTT service specialising in Turkish content, BluTV has signed up more than 4.2m customers to its service since its launch. Most of the sign-ups have been in Turkey and the Middle East where the service has been live since Q2 2018.
Commenting on the reasons for the growth, BluTV’s Founder and CEO Dogan Yalcindag said: “Our biggest strength has been our original productions. We aired our first original in January 2017 with huge fanfare. Watched more than 2 million times, Masum (Innocent) has been one of our hallmarks. So far, all of our original shows have scored an IMDB rating above 8.0. We are happy with the growth we see in the Turkish market. In 2018, we have quadrupled our subscriber base in Turkey, and this was done without any distribution deals, on a purely direct-to-consumer basis.”
BluTV bets on a mega-trend in the TV industry: the popularity of Turkish TV series around the world. Turkey is amongst the top 5 exporters of TV series in the world and Turkish shows are enjoyed yearly by 400m people, especially in Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa. BluTV has already signed an extensive partnership with STC’s (Saudi Telecom Company) JawwyTV to reach more Arabic speaking customers.
Dogan Yalcindag added: “We are aiming to become the home for all Turkish content and to complete this offering with local shows that share similar traits. This is what our international partners value. We have produced 11 series so far with huge success. One of our biggest success has been Sıfır Bir (Zero One) which is at its fifth seasons this year.
