Etisalat partners with Ericsson to better monetise media services

Etisalat has signed an agreement with Ericsson in order to deploy a Unified Delivery Network (UDN) platform, which might be the first of its kind in the region. UDN basically connects content providers with the last mile reach of service providers for content delivery. As a result, content providers are equipped to optimise services and scale the delivery of high quality content and advanced services including 4K, ultra HD, gaming and virtual reality.

Hatem Bamatraf, CTO International at Etisalat Group, said: "Partnering with Ericsson to deploy high quality content will enable us to offer our customers enhanced video quality of experience through seamless delivery, establishing Etisalat Group as regional leader in this area.”

Ericsson's attempt is to bring together content providers and service providers to collaborate so as to provide a rich content experience to the customers. Petter Järtby, head of Etisalat global customer unit at Ericsson Region Middle East said: "The launch of UDN delivers a disruptive new business model that offers a win-win situation for all players involved with traffic delivery.”

The two parties plan the deployment in 2017.
