Ooredoo has signed an agreement with Qatar Railways Company to provide network connectivity for the Qatar Rail Red Line Metro network.
Under the deal, Ooredoo will deploy its In-Building Solution (IBS) across the Doha Metro Red Line, to connect passengers on the metro with voice and data services. The Red Line is planned to be 40km in length, with 17 stations.
The agreement was signed at QITCOM by Waleed Al Sayed, Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo Qatar and Eng. Abdulla Al Subaie, Managing Director and CEO of Qatar Rail.
As part of the agreement, Ooredoo will work closely with Qatar Rail and their systems contractor to complete the project, which will include the planning, designing, installing and commissioning of the Ooredoo IBS service.
Once in place, the Ooredoo IBS service will enable travellers to connect to Ooredoo's Supernet network at any of the Qatar Rail Metro Red Line stations.
Ooredoo already has an existing MoU with Qatar Rail, to establish a collaboration framework to provide next generation ICT solutions for the design, construction and operation of the Qatar Rail Development Programme (QRDP). The programme includes the Doha Metro, Lusail Light Rail Transit (LLRT), a tram service for Lusail and the Long Distance Passenger and Freight Network which will connect to the wider region.
