The Ministry of civil service in Saudi Arabia has asked all ministries and government departments to get rid of all expatriate workers within three years, according to deputy minister Abdullah Al-Melfi, as reported by The Saudi Gazette. “There will be no expatriate workers in the government after 2020,” he told a meeting in the Kingdom earlier this week.
There were 70,000 expats in the public sector at the end of last year, according to ministry estimates.
Melfi added that the complete nationalisation of government jobs is an important objective of the national transformation programme 2020 and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
Last year, the Kingdom had ramped up Saudisation efforts in the telecom sector.
