UAE-based developer Nakheel has awarded four contracts collectively worth more than $117m (AED430m) for its 15.3 square kilometre Deira Islands waterfront development.
The contracts, covering islands A and B of the four-island project, are for a sewage treatment plant, a district cooling plant, a substation, and piling work for an 800-room resort.
Nakheel has now invested nearly $2bn (AED7.5bn) in infrastructure and construction contracts for Deira Islands so far.
The developer said in a statement that more contracts will come online soon.
Deira Islands will add 40km, including 21km of beach to Dubai’s coastline, adding a population of 250,000 and creating 80,000 jobs
1. VWS Emirates LLC/ Butec S.A.L (Dubai Branch): In an $62m (AED228.3m) contract, VWS Emirates LLC/ Butec S.A.L will provide the design, construction and 10 years’ operation and maintenance of a sewage treatment plant under a joint venture.
2. Emirates District Cooling (Emicool): Emirates District Cooling (Emicool) LLC will build a district cooling plant for Nakheel’s Deira Islands Night Souk and nearby Nakheel buildings, with 10 years’ operation and maintenance in a contract worth $27m (AED100m).
3. AG Power LLC: A $25m (AED90.5m) contract has gone to AG Power LLC to build a 132/11kV substation, covering the south island (Island A). Three other substations are already under construction. Deira Islands will have eight substations in total.
4. Delta Foundations (Dubai branch): Delta was awarded a $3.9m (AED15m) contract for piling works for the 800-room RIU beach front resort, Nakheel’s joint venture hospitality project with Spain’s RIU Hotels and Resorts. A construction tender for the resort was issued in May, and is due to be awarded by the end of this year.
