A decree has been issued to establish the Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA) in Bahrain.

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued Decree 47/2017, stipulating the establishment of UPDA, which will be under the supervision of the minister in charge of urban planning.

Decree 48/2017, outlining UPDA's organisational structure, was issued as well.

According to the decree, UPDA will be headed by a CEO with the rank of undersecretary, who will head the Human and Financial Resources Directorate, and the Studies and Strategic Planning Directorate.

Meanwhile, UPDA's deputy CEO, with the rank of assistant undersecretary, will manage the Detailed Planning, Land Development and Projects, and Investment Directorates.

HM King Hamad issued Decree 49/2017, naming Shaikh Nayef bin Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa as UPDA's CEO, and Rashid Salah Rashid Al-Sa’ad as its deputy CEO.

Bahrain's Works, Municipalities Affairs, and Urban Planning Minister will implement the decree, which takes immediate effect, BNA reported.
