The Expo 2020 Dubai team is set to begin procuring facility management (FM) contracts, and has called on cleaning and landscaping companies to explore opportunities related to the mega event.

An upcoming event under the Expo team's Meet the Buyer series will "be the perfect opportunity for companies with expertise in FM, including small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to connect with Expo as it starts its search for potential contractors".

Meet the Buyer is a programme aimed at connecting companies with members of Expo 2020 Dubai's procurement team.

The next event in the Meet the Buyer series will take place in Dubai on 20 September, 2017, "days after Expo’s procurement team opens a request for information (RFI) for FM suppliers, including both soft and hard services, and waste management".

Due to be held during the RFI period, the event will offer interested bidders "an opportunity to directly find out about the full [FM] potential at Expo, including immediate and upcoming opportunities".

Commenting on the scope for FM teams at the upcoming event, Manal Al Bayat, senior vice-president of business development and integration at Expo 2020 Dubai, said FM is "a vital part of putting on a World Expo".

According to Dubai Media Office, Al Bayat added: "Millions of people will be attending from all over the world and we are looking for firms that can work with us to help ensure that Expo, and the site, runs smoothly.

"Meet the Buyer is a fantastic opportunity for companies, including SMEs, in this sector to find out more and showcase their skills and expertise to members of our procurement team, so we encourage them to sign up without delay."
