Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has announced that it expects the pouring of the first hot metal (FHM) of its Line 6 expansion project to take place by 1 January, 2019.

The statement came following the Alba board of directors’ third quarterly meeting of 2017, according to Bahrain News Agency (BNA).

Alba’s board members also noted that they were satisfied with the recovery of Reduction Line 5, following a power outage that halted operations in April.

Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Bin Daij Al Khalifa, chairman of the organisation’s board of directors, said: “We are pleased with the speedy recovery of Reduction Line 5, and we look forward to having a strong finish to 2017.

“We also look forward to [securing] the second tranche of the Export Credit Agency (ECA) by the end of 2017,” he added.

During the Q3 meeting, board members reviewed the reports of the executive committee, board audit committee, and the nominations and remuneration committee. Updates were also given on safety, financial performance, Phase 2 of Project Titan, and overall market trends.

The board also approved the appointments of Ali Al Baqali as deputy chief executive officer and chief supply chain manager; and Waleed Tamimi as chief administration officer.
