The foundation stone for a $79m (AED290m) Cassation Court and smart parking buildings project in Dubai has been laid, marking the start of construction works on the development.
Located at the former employee parking area next to the Dubai Courts building, the project is being managed by Dubai Courts, in cooperation with a private entity, UAE state news agency, WAM, reported.
The development is the first project based on Law 22 for 2015, which covers partnerships between the public and private sectors in Dubai.
The private company will handle the cost of the project, with construction works expected to be completed within 36 months, WAM added.
In May 2016, it was announced that Dubai Courts had inked the first public private partnership (PPP) agreement in Dubai with Park Line, a special purpose company established by NGP, which is a part of the KBW Investments portfolio.
Upon completion, the Cassation Court building will house the Court’s sessions, including the Appeal Court, and will host the new offices of the Dubai Courts, as well as a sports club for the judicial authority and a smart legal library that is twice the size of the current library.
Meanwhile, the smart parking building will provide 1,232 smart parking spaces, with 10 entrance and exit points. A total of 950 smart parking spaces will be allocated for the public, and 373 for employees, WAM added.
The laying of the foundation stone was led by HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Judicial Council, who was briefed on the details of the project, which spans 25,084m2.
