My City Centre Masdar, a new eco-friendly mall, will open in Abu Dhabi in the second quarter of 2019.

According to a press release, the AED340mn mall will have a rating of three on Abu Dhabi’s Estidama Pearl Rating System.

“The Estidama Pearl Rating System is a green building rating system developed by the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council. The pearl rating system is divided into buildings, villa, and community. Each with the scale of one to five pearl,” an online statement said.

The mall will feature more than 77 stores across 18,800sq m of gross leasable area. It will include a 5,793sq m Carrefour Hypermarket and a variety of dining options for both residents and professionals.

When complete, it will be the largest Majid Al Futtaim community mall in the UAE.

The mall will put into place several sustainability initiatives. Some of these will include: deploying energy efficient processes during the construction phase; diverting as much as 70 per cent of solid waste away from landfill; collecting and segregating food and landscaping waste; reducing overall energy consumption at the mall by 40 per cent annually; using energy-efficient LED lights and low-flow bathroom taps; and adopting grey water recycling for landscape irrigation and toilet facilities.

The mall will generate 20 per cent of its electricity requirements from solar panels on the roof.

Besides these, the mall will also provide 18 charging points for electrical car owners and bicycle parking facilities.
