A 40,000m² logistics warehouse in Jebel Ali, Dubai, has been inaugurated by joint venture (JV) partners RHS Group and Access World.

Access World Logistics, a JV between Dubai’s RHS Group and Swiss logistics provider Access Group, opened the $10.8m (AED40m) warehouse in the Jebel Ali Free Zone.

It can hold more than 90,000 freight tonnes of cargo at any one time.

Metals such as aluminium and steel, industrial tubing, wood, paper, pulp, and petrochemicals will be stored at the warehouse, as well as heavy machinery, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).

The project was built in 10 months, following ground-breaking ceremony held in July 2017.

It includes a 15,200m² covered warehouse with very narrow aisles and a 7,500m² storage facility.

Access World Logistics said plans were already under way to commission a rooftop solar panel system to meet the majority of the warehouse’s power needs with renewable energy.

Peter Waszkis, chief executive officer of Access World, which is based in the affluent Swiss town of Zug, lauded the "dream project" in Dubai.

"Our vision is to deliver value to all stakeholders by providing comprehensive logistics solutions in a competitive, efficient and safe environment," he said. Today is the culmination of a dream project, yet is just the beginning of a long and hopefully rewarding journey."

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to inaugurate the warehouse, which was attended by more than 120 people who toured the factory.

Among those attending were officials from port operator DP World, Dubai Customs, the London Metal Exchange, and Commercial Bank of Dubai.
