At bauma 2019, SAF-Holland showcased its hydraulically driven SAF Intra CD Trak axle for trucks and trailers operating under difficult conditions. The system is designed for trailers in the 9-ton standard range which oper-ate on construction sites and landfills.
The commerical vehicle parts supplier used a live demonstrator of the SAF Intra CD Trak at the bauma expo to show how a trailer could be pushed up a short incline with ease. The third trailer axle is equipped with the hydrau-lic auxiliary drive: it takes over the full axle load, transfers the complete drive moment and moves the trailer forward. The SAF Intra CD Trak shows its strengths, particularly, on loose ground, when driving up hills and when setting off after tipping, at the press of a button, directly from the driver's cab.
SAF-Holland has been manufacturing the axle as a standard product since the middle of 2018. It is also being manufactured as robust fifth wheels for construction and terminal vehicles.
For offroad applications, the lightweight SK-S 36.20 Reoclube fifth wheel made from spheroidal graphite cast iron is suitable for imposed loads up to 20 tons. The integrated automatic Recolube lubrication pump eliminate the need for manual lubrication of the fifth wheels.
For terminal tractors, SAF-Holland offers the cast steel FW3510-TR fifth wheel. It is adapted to the extreme requirements at port and container terminals, facilitating handling of semi-trailers at ports and in industrial use.
The SK-HD 38.36 coupling is specially designed for heavy-duty transports with up to 36-ton imposed loads. The robust component is also available as an of-froad variant SK-HD 38.36 G with cardanic bearings. The fifth wheel with offroad-capability compensates for pitch and roll movements, which is a special advantage for transports on difficult terrain. SAF-Holland also offers the SK-V 36 slider for its heavy-duty couplings, with an overall height of 150 and 190 mm and an imposed load of 36 t. This enables optimum utilisation of the permissible axle loads and individual distribution of the imposed load on the tractor unit.
Alexandre Charpiot, vice-president, sales, OEM & aftermarket-Europe, SAF-Holland, said: "At bauma 2019, we wanted to communicate the advantages of the driven axle for construction vehicles in a sophisticated environment. This was highly successful and we are very happy with the exhibition and its results."
