Construction work will soon commence on Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the Frank Gehry-designed project located close to the Louvre Abu Dhabi museum – which opened in November 2017 – on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi.

Euronews reported that Solomon R Guggenheim Foundation and Museum’s director in New York, Richard Armstrong, said the project was on track and within budget, and would complete by 2022.

According to the Euronews report, he added: “It's a big building, parts of it are quite complex and it should take a little bit of time to put together as it's also quite large.”

Armstrong was speaking on the side-lines of Culture Summit Abu Dhabi, held between 7 and 11 April. The event was organized by Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, with its show partners including the Royal Academy of Arts, Unesco, Guggenheim, The Economist Events, and Google.

According to the official, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will feature artwork that will mark “really, the first global collection after 1965”, adding: “We'll be seeing important examples of work from all parts of the world, mostly in the wake of Pop Art.”

Commenting on the creative investment that the museum will require, Armstrong – according to Euronews – said: “[It] will really consume all of our energies over the next 10 years, I reckon.”
