With Expo 2020 Dubai less than 600 days away, the developers behind the next World Expo revealed plans to make its facilities more friendly for People of Determination.

Expo 2020 Dubai's announcement came on 2 April, which is observed each year as World Autism Day.

When it opens on 20 October, 2020, Expo 2020 Dubai's facilities will feature four quiet rooms, called ‘decompression areas’, for visitors on the autistic spectrum or those prone to sensory overload.

Additionally, mobility services for People of Determination will be delivered through the provision of wheelchairs, charging stations, strollers, and electric vehicles.

Commenting on the move, Maitha Ahmad Al Yousuf, assistant manager for front-of-house guest services and event operations at Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “Expo 2020 will be the first event in the UAE to provide such a facility, which is just one part of our determination to be inclusive across the entire journey to delivering [the expo].”

Expo 2020 Dubai's announcement is in line with the 'My Community is a Place for All' initiative launched in November 2013 by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, to transform Dubai into a city that is comfortable for People of Determination, by 2020.

In June 2018, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority approved designs for its Expo 2020 Dubai bus stations, which are being constructed to comply with the Dubai Universal Design Code for People of Determination.
