The final concrete for the upper roof slab of Jumeirah Living at Marina Gate, the third building in Select Group’s $1bn (AED4bn) three-tower development, has been placed by UAE contractor ALEC.
It marks a significant milestone for the Dubai Marina megaproject, with the third and final tower now topped out.
With the envelope sealed, main contractor ALEC and its subsidiaries Alemco – its mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) arm – and ALEC Fitout can work together to complete the final tower in time for Q2 2020.
Jumeirah Living at Marina Gate was topped out with help from Construction Week Awards 2018's Project Manager of the Year, Johan Moolman.
Marina Gate consists of more than 1,400 podium-level villas and high-rise apartments split across three towers overlooking Dubai Marina.
ALEC started construction on Marina Gate’s first tower in March 2015 and second tower in January 2016. Works on Jumeirah Living at Marina Gate started in July 2017.
It is the first large-scale construction project that ALEC has worked on with subsidiaries Alemco and ALEC Fitout.
Construction Week revealed in January 2019 that robotics had been used to automate plastering, façade installation, and chasing work for the project.
ALEC said at the time that using robotics – an emerging building technology around the world – may have reduced the time it takes to install one floor of façade panels by up to 50%, in addition to cutting construction waste and reducing the number of site staff needed for concrete chasing.
