OMA’s Iyad Alsaka and Reinier de Graaf, in collaboration with Kuwait-based consultant Pace, revealed their design for the Wafra tower - a residential project in the Hessa Al Mubarak District along the Kuwait City waterfront.
OMA’s design, which consists of five residential blocks forming a stepped sequence that modulates from an L-shaped volume to slab, was selected from three entries in a competition organized by the Wafra Real Estate Company.
The design structure maximises occupancy on the lower floors and optimises views of the seafront and the city along the vertical axis of the building.
The tower will include one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments, as well as large penthouses, a swimming pool, and diwaniyas.
Construction of the project, which is led by OMA's Iyad Alsaka, Reinier de Graaf, Jad Semaan, and Adrianne Fisher, is expected to start at the end of 2020. Upon completion, the Wafra Tower will be OMA’s first built project in Kuwait.
