Saudi's Qiddiya unveils Capital of Entertainment development hubs

The masterplan for Saudi Arabia’s Qiddiya gigaproject features five zones called development nodes that feature sport stadiums, hotel resorts, a residential neighborhood, theme parks, and an off-road driving track.

Qiddiya Investment Company has unveiled the masterplan for the massive entertainment gigaproject that will become the kingdom’s so-called Capital of Entertainment, Sports and the Arts.

The massive 334km² site will be comprised of five development nodes.

Resort Core will be the heart of Qiddiya, a gigaproject backed by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund.

It will feature four gated attractions, surrounded by a 15ha retail, dining and entertainment complex.

A collection of hotel resorts, skating, and skiing facilities will be include in Resort Core. It will also feature the Six Flags Qiddiya theme park and a water park with an integrated hotel.

Motor enthusiasts will be thrilled to learn that the Resort Core will have a Speed Park to bring together the world of motor sports, with driving tracks, showrooms, shops, a driver’s club and a luxury hotel part of the mix.

A mixed-use sports and art village called the City Centre is the second node at Qiddiya. It overlooks the Resort Core perched 200m atop the Tuwaiq escarpment. It will be home to a 20,000-seat sports stadium, offering spectacular views of the Saudi landscape. It will also have a smaller 18,000-person indoor arena housing an aquatics centre.

A 2,000-seat performing arts theatre will also be built, as well as what the company calls an “innovative arts centre”.

A grand mosque will anchor one part of the mixed-used development, which will also have a private school, a sports medicine hospital, and villas adjacent to a pedestrian thoroughfare.

Eco Core will be home to a collection of wildlife and ecological projects to optimise the picturesque desert landscape.

The Motion Core at Qiddiya will be the centre of projects related to events, experiences, residential, hospitality. All of them will be driven by the “science of technology of people in motion”.

Motion Core will also feature a 15km-long driving course and facilities for off-road driving.

A golf and residential neighborhood sits near the centre of the project. It will feature an 18-hole course, a hotel, equestrian facilities and shops and restaurants.
