The Italian Trade Agency (ITA) is a government body responsible for promoting Italian firms and attracting foreign direct investment into Italy. ITA helps to facilitate and promote Italian economic and trade relations with foreign countries, focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises, their associations and partnerships.

The Italian Pavilion at Downtown Design 2019 is a joint project between ITA and the Italian Associations of Artisans and Small-Medium Enterprises (CNA and Confartigianato) with technical support from Florence-based architecture firm La Vanguardia Studio. ITA will showcase ‘Italian Interiors: The Art of Italian Design’ at Downtown Design, exhibiting work from 20 Italian firms – everything from furniture and lighting, tiles to textiles and outdoor living products to everyday items will be on show. They all reflect a manufacturing culture that matches modern industrial process with the refined tradition of artisanal craft, combining creativity, innovation and the ability to adapt to market changes.

What Italian brands are coming to downtown design?

Bergamo-based Multi Design will bring its decorative objects and luxury fitness equipment collection, Ciclotte, to the fair. Cignini Arredamenti, which makes wooden and metal chairs in-house, will join Ever Life Design, a young brand thinking outside the box with innovative bathroom and home products, at Downtown Design.

Famtini Mosaici creates mosaics and marble. Fiam Italia, which works with world-leading designers and architects, such as Fuksas, creates furniture from curved glass. Both are taking part.

Luxury Italian leather will of course be highlighted at the pavilion. Futura Leathers and luxury accessories maker Pinetti are joining the 20-strong design contingent.

A group of Tuscany-based furniture manufacturers represented under the Gruppo Gimo banner will join the pavilion, with Wave Murano Glass, a small group of glassblowers led by master and production manager Roberto Beltrami, on the team as well. They will not be alone. Glass and crystal producer Locchi, hand-made Murano glass design outfit Vetrofuso Di Daniela Poletti, and laminated glass bench design firm Vetrogiardini will also participate.

The Liu Jo Living Collection - a partnership between fashion brand Liu Jo and ATL Group – will showcase the padded furniture collection that mixes high fashion and long-standing traditions in Italian manufacturing.

Other participants include luxury fragrance brand Locherber Milano, home furnishing maker Morici, mattress maker Zigflex by Salvadori and avant-garde designer Teckell.

Mabele by Ma-Bo, which makes interior furniture using metal laser-cutting, is on the list. So too is Made A Mano, which mixes cultures and techniques to produce ceramics and Etna lava stone. Mithome by Marinelli will bring 30-years of sofa craftsmanship to Downtown Design.
