After being closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island has resumed business and bragging rights as the only hotel in the world located atop a Grand Prix racetrack.
The 499-key property has reopened its doors after just playing host to the highly-successful UFC Fight Island event throughout July.
In line with directives from the Abu Dhabi government, the property has successfully been given the Go Safe Certification in recognition of its elevated hygiene procedures.
The five-star hotel was placed under lockdown at the end of February over coronavirus fears.
Originally called the Yas Hotel, the 85,000-sq-m complex was built in 2009 and an anchor architectural feature of the ambitious $36-bn Yas Marina development and accompanying Formula 1 circuit.
It was designed by Asymptote Architects who envisioned an architectural landmark embodying various key influences and inspirations, ranging from the aesthetics of speed, movement and spectacle to the artistry and geometries, which are the basis of ancient Islamic art and craft traditions.
Interiors of the renovated spaces of the hotel were re-designed by DWP Dubai, who also designed W Dubai — The Palm.
Featuring an innovative design and pulsating energy, this architecturally-inspired hotel sits between the racetrack and local marina, and celebrates the capital’s rich culture through design.
Guests are greeted by Bedouin-inspired tents, large columns and seating inspired by local mangroves, while the hotel’s vibrant 499 guest rooms and suites offer plush amenities and floor-to-ceiling windows with spectacular views of the Grand Prix racetrack or the Yas Marina.
