Research conducted by Deliveroo has confirmed that brunch is the UAE’s favourite meal, while rolling pins, whisks and blenders remain unused in kitchen cupboards across the country.

Deliveroo’s research also exposed wider UAE eating habits, with 99% of customers considering food to be central to key life events and social occasions. Brunch came first, securing 64% of votes, followed closely by family time (53%), date night (47%), movie night (35%) and birthdays (28%).

The report also found that UAE residents like to cook at home during the week with 83% of  them using their kitchens on weekdays. Mondays see the highest concentration of home cooking, with 52% of people preferring to eat a home-cooked meal. By contrast, Thursday signals the start of the UAE weekend and is unsurprisingly the least favourite day for home cooking.

According to the report, 59% of people use only 50% of their kitchen appliances on a regular basis and confirmed that the average person owns 33 kitchen appliances, with three-quarters of people reporting that these take-up half of their kitchen space.

Costs also run high in the kitchen, as 57% of customers value their gadgets at AED 4,600 (US $1,253) or more.
