UAE tourists have had to face dusty and windy weather this Sunday (May 13) and it will continue until Tuesday (May 15). According to the National Meteorological Centre, the weather will remain hot and hazy in general.

Dubai still has high tourists numbers in Mayand it received 4.7 million international overnight visitors in the first quarter of 2018 – a 2 % rise from the same period last year, according to new figures from the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism). Therefore, hoteliers in the region have put contingency plans in place for guests at their hotels.

Fairmont Dubai director of rooms Joe Nassoura said: “Due to the unstable weather conditions all our food and beverage outlets are witnessing an increase in footfall from our in-house guests, as well as The Spa at Fairmont Dubai, which has been fully booked since the early hours of the morning. The majority of the Fairmont Gold guests however, are enjoying the facilities from the comfort of the Fairmont Gold Lounge on the hotel’s 33rd floor, overlooking quite an unusual sight – sandstorm covering the Dubai skyline."

He also added that on days like these, the majority of guests would avoid leaving the hotel premises and, rather, utilise the hotel's dining and indoor wellness facilities to the maximum instead.

Iftikhar Hamdani, cluster general manager of Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman and Ramada Beach Hotel Ajman and Wyndham Garden Ajman Corniche, told Hotelier Middle East: "In spite of the weather condition, we still witnessed a number of guests on the beach, mostly during the early morning. For those who prefer to stay indoors, Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman and Ramada Beach Hotel Ajman both have indoor swimming pools, which offered an advantage during this time. Our three hotels also have a full range of indoor facilities including the spa, fitness club and kids’ play area to keep the guests occupied. Plus, the hotels provide complimentary bus transfers to the malls in Dubai and Ajman hence, there are definitely plenty of activities to choose from."

It would seen that most hoteliers are unperturbed as despite the weather outside there are still plenty of indoor activities to choose from.

Ramada Downtown Dubai general manager Mark Fernando commented: "Our guests get to enjoy all the benefits of the Downtown lifestyle, regardless of the weather. Thus, it is always an advantage to book a hotel at a prime location in Dubai. On top of shopping, there are several indoor activities to choose from including Dubai Ice Rink, Dubai Aquarium, and KidZania, to name a few. There are a few guests who prefer to use the opportunity to slow down on their tour itinerary to stay in, and simply relax at the hotel. Some even make the most of the rare weather conditions to post on social media."
