TRI Consulting has predicted that Sharjah is aiming to attract more than 10 million tourists to the emirate in the next two years.
Speaking exclusively to Hotelier Middle East, TRI Consulting’s consultant Yani Eftimov said tourism push in the emirate is in line with the Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021.
According to data from the company, the total number of hotel guests in 2018 stood at 1.7 million with a combined revenue of US$ 172.3 million.
“2018 witnessed the opening of two branded hotel establishments, namely Al Bait Sharjah and Kingfisher Lodge, bringing the total number of hotel establishment keys to 8,001 across 60 establishments [in Sharjah] as per STR’s data,” said Eftimov.
He added that diversifying the emirate’s hospitality inventory is expected to attract new target markets and tourist profiles.
“Sharjah’s hotel market is currently predominated by three- and four-star hotel properties with the number of five-star hotels being considerably low in comparison to other nearby markets,” Eftimov added.
“Nevertheless, due to an increasing demand for high-quality premium accommodation in the emirate, there has been a noticeable shift in new hotel launches from midscale (3-star) to luxury and upscale properties. The majority of the upcoming hotel inventory fall within the 5- and 4-star hotel categories.”
