The group that has several properties in the Middle East plans to do so across all its hotels within the next two years.In addition to this initiative, the company has also launched a Water SMART contest where participating hotels will initiate a water reduction project for three months. The model of the winning hotel will be “scaled across all hotels as a best practice”.
Speaking about their new sustainability goal, Dr PV Murthy, executive VP and global head - HR, IHCL said: “At IHCL, it is our constant endeavour to grow responsibly and contribute to preserving the environment in a meaningful way. This year's goal is in line with our commitment to working towards optimising water and energy consumption."So far, IHCL has eliminated two million plastic straws from its ecosystem within a year. In addition to that, IHCL has scaled up its renewable energy quotient from 7% to 23% over the last three years.
Meanwhile, three IHCL hotel — Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Andamans, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives and Taj Samudra, Colombo have eliminated PET bottles entirely, these properties also have their own in-house bottling units.
