In what Marriott Hotel Al Forsan, Abu Dhabi explains to be its “commitment to make a difference in society”, the luxury hotel has donated leftovers from its brunch service to feed stray dogs.
As part of the Khalifa City hotel’s Global Customer Appreciation Week and wider ‘Spirit to serve our communities’ programme, it gave away 11 kilogrammes of leftovers to the people at ‘The Doggy Bag’ initiative.
The collected food included meat, chicken, seafood (non-shell), rice, bread, cooked and raw vegetables and selected pieces of sushi. The items were taken from the hotel’s Khayal and Appaloosa restaurants.
For reference, a seafood buffet at Khayal starts at AED 249 for adults with Apploosa’s brunch costing the same.
The food was processed into a mince by Springbok Butchery and Catering UAE, before being sent to vet locations such as Cloud 9. Volunteering groups who feed stray dogs in Mussaffah, Khalifa City and Industrial City of Abu Dhabi were also sent the minced food.
David Lance, General Manager at Marriott Hotel Al Forsan, Abu Dhabi, said: “We are extremely delighted to have participated in this initiative for the first time. When we heard about this project, we wanted to be part of it straight away as ‘The Doggy Bag’ fits with our Corporate Society Responsibility vision and what we want to achieve.”
“As a global hotel brand, we have a duty to not only look after our guests by offering excellent hospitality but to also support our communities – both human beings and animals. There are many stray animals in Abu Dhabi, including dogs, who do not get the enough food or water and it’s great to support a group of people who want to make a difference.”
Marriott Hotel Al Forsan Abu Dhabi was one of a nine Marriott hotels across the city to take part in the initiative, collectively the hotel’s donated 107 kilogrammes of food.
