Coffee venue chain Mokha 1450 has announced a home coffee brewing competition to take place from March 31 to April 28.
Described as the first of its kind in the UAE, contestants must upload a video of themselves to Mokha 1450’s Instagram showing their best home brewing technique. Contenders are asked to upload the video from their home, while only using whole speciality coffee beans and being as creative as possible.
Votes will be made by the global coffee community on Instagram, with 10 finalists announced for the final round of the Home Brewing Championship on May 4. The top 10 video entries will then be reposted and a three-day period of voting will take place. The champion, second and third place finishers will then be announced.
Decided on May 7, the winner will receive US$2,000 in cash, along with a hand-carved Chemex and four bags of Mokha 1450’s single origin coffee. The runner up will be given $1,000, a custom Aeropress and two bags of coffee, while the competitor who comes third will take home $500, a coffee grinder and a bag of coffee.
Mokha 1450 CEO Garfield Kerr explained: “In response to these trying times we’ve put together this special event to lift people’s spirits and provide those isolated in their homes around the world with an opportunity to come together around coffee, one of the world’s most unifying (and delicious) subjects.
Video submissions can be made on Instagram using the #homecoffeebrewingchampionship hashtag.
