A new Japanese fusion restaurant is set to open in Renaissance Downtown Dubai, replacing Morimoto on the 23rd floor.

Mami Umami is taking over the space and is set to blend the ingredients and techniques of Japanese cooking with South American culture, colours, and flavours.

The new concept from executive chef Carlos Rodriguez aims to create a shared dining experience, combining a casual izakaya-style eatery but with a Latin twist to offer a menu divided into nine separate categories.

Customers can enjoy nippy Nippon (cold), hotto mami (hot), lo crudo (raw), tempura y frita (fried), carbon de japon (grilled), la Mami Umami (signature), sushi/sashimi, maki, and sweet wasabi (dessert) options.

The bar will also play a key role at Mami Umami, with expert mixologists again bringing the concept’s two cultures together to create speciality cocktails infused with Japanese sake. With the choice of fruity, zesty, spicy, bitter, or umami flavours, there will be inventive cocktails to suit all palates.

The restaurant, bar, lounge, and terrace takes up an expansive space in its new surroundings, with music to match including laidback Latin and bossa-nova sounds to start the night to funky jazz beats at dinnertime and upbeat Caribbean music to keep the party going late into the evening.

Open from 6pm until 1am, Mami Umami is set to open on August 18.
