Wyndham Hotels and Resorts has made face masks mandatory across all of its US and Canada-located properties.

“We all must play a role in slowing the spread of COVID-19,” said Geoff Ballotti, president and CEO, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts in a public statement. “This is a simple step we can take to help protect guests, team members, franchisees, and the countless communities we serve.”

In July, Wyndham’s EMEA president Dimitris Manikis told Hotelier Middle East that hygiene is the number one priority for the hotel group. He said: “Now more so than ever, travellers will be looking for brands that they can trust, not only for quality but also for cleanliness and safety. From the outset, our key focus is on the safety and well-being of our partners and team members, whilst working to restore our guests’ confidence and excitement in travel.“

Manikis added: “We want guests to know they can ‘Count on Us’ and that their safety, their health, and their well-being is what matters most. It’s about providing comfort and also peace of mind when guests stay with us. These are the measures that will set our hotel partners in EMEA apart as we prepare to welcome back travellers together.”

While the use of face coverings are common practice in the UAE, only a handful of hotel groups in the United States have made masks mandatory. Marriott International introduced a rule on masks near the end of July, with IHG and Hyatt soon following.

Wyndham’s new rule comes into effect on August 10.
