The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has temporarily suspended entry and exit from the Al Qatif governorate in the Kingdom’s Eastern Province.

The decision was made after 11 coronavirus cases in KSA were determined to originate from the governorate according to state news agency WAM.

The temporary ban was implemented in view of "internationally established practices to prevent the spread of the virus outbreak require dealing at the geographical level", a source at the Ministry of Interior was quoted as saying by the Saudi Press Agency, SPA.

"Given that all 11 recorded positive cases of the new coronavirus are from Qatif... it has been decided... to temporarily suspend entry and exit from Qatif," said the Ministry.

Returnees who live in Al Qatif will be allowed to reach their homes. Work in all government and private institutions have been temporarily halted.
