In a new development that apparently indicates towards an amicable resolution of the dispute between Iran and India, a top Iranian official has reportedly said talks are underway with both India’s ONGC and Russia’s Gazprom on the development of the Islamic Republic’s Farzad-B gas field.

“Talks are underway with India (hinting towards state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, the discoverer of the field) and (Russia’s) Gazprom, and if they offer acceptable technical and financial proposals, they will be contracted to develop the Farzad-B gas field,” Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister Ali Kardor has said, according to a Farsi report by the local Etemad daily newspaper.

Kardor noted that the engineering, procurement, construction financing (EPCF) studies on the development of the offshore gas field are being conducted by an undisclosed consultant.

“In the meantime, foreign firms have the chance to announce their readiness if they are interested to develop the gas field,” he has said.
