DB Schenker in Dubai has begun construction of the second phase of its contract logistics expansion in the Logistics District at Dubai South, the 35,000 square meter warehouse will bring the total contract logistics capacity to 45,000 square meters by the end of 2018.

The logistics center is the second facility out of a three phase growth plan which should provide DB Schenker with a footprint in the Logistics District at Dubai South of approximately 80,000 sqm by 2021.

The state-of-the-art logistics center will have a warehouse space of 35,000 square meters with a 3,500 square meter mezzanine dedicated to value added services and spare parts operations.

It will contain temperature-controlled areas as well as ambient temperature zones. The facility is planed to start operation in Q1 2019.

“Dubai is our regional hub for the Middle East and Africa and investing in Dubai South was a strategic step to strengthen our network and to complete DB Schenker‘s service coverage in UAE. It is about speed, connectivity and getting the goods on time to end users,“ says Ako Djaf, DB Schenker, regional vice president of Contract Logistics / SCM, Region Middle East/Africa.

“Being located only a few meters away from the runways of Al Maktoum airport and Emirates Road and only 15 minutes away from Jebel Ali Port enables us to offer first class integrated transportation and warehousing solutions for our global customers,” he added.

With capacity to process 12 million tons of air cargo by 2023, the Logistics District is strategically located near to the world’s biggest airport, and adjacent to one of the world’s largest container ports, Jebel Ali Port.

DLC incorporates more than 25 sq. km of free zone and serves every transport mode, logistics need and value-adding operation in the supply chain.

DB Schenker says it has facilitated the market entry of many international companies and grows together with them in this complex but also high potential region.

This has made DB Schenker one of the fastest growing logistic service providers in the Middle East and Africa region, expanding the total area of DB Schenker operated logistics centers from 40,000 to 200,000 square meters in the last five years.
