VMware, a global provider of cloud infrastructure and business mobility technologies, has launched the latest release of VMware VSAN.
Boasting up to 50% higher all-flash performance and a lower total cost of ownership (TCO), vSAN also features a native hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) security.
HCI systems, which combine software-defined compute and storage capabilities with industry standard Intel Architecture (IA) servers, can aid customers to streamline IT operations, boost operational performance, and reduce investment and maintenance costs.
Yanbing Li, senior vice president and general manager, Storage and Availability Business Unit, VMware, said: "Since the initial release of VMware vSAN in 2014, customers have turned to vSAN because of its TCO savings and the simplicity of managing compute and storage together."
She added: "VMware vSAN 6.6 is packed with innovations featuring several industry firsts, and will further drive mainstream adoption of HCI by helping customers modernise their data centers to gain a competitive edge through newfound agility."
As the sixth-generation of VMware's enterprise-grade native storage for vSphere, VMware vSAN 6.6 will help customers to transform their infrastructure through native encryption, reliable availability, as well as a wide-range in choices in hardware platforms. The latter includes flash technologies, such as Intel Optane solid-state drives (SSDs).
Furthermore, vSAN 6.6 further lowers TCO through intelligent operations and cloud-based analytics, while still sporting the same level of flexibility and performance.
Eric Burgener, research director Storage, at IDC, said: "As legacy storage platforms come up for technology refresh, many enterprises are looking to modernise their IT infrastructure and reap the benefits of more scalable performance, easier expansion and management, and lower overall costs."
