Instagram is testing a new feature that enables users to live stream their videos and invite a friend to join in.

"Now, you can hang out and go live together, whether you're just doing homework or catching up on your day," Instagram said in a statement.

The idea is that whilst it is fun to live stream, some users may find it intimidating on their own but having a friend may make it less daunting.

Instagram users can add anyone who is watching their video by selecting ‘Add' positioned on the bottom right of the screen. Once they join, the screen will spilt into two, with the friend positioned in the bottom half. Guests can leave at any time and new viewers can also be added in.

Once the live stream is over, the video can be discarded or added to Instagram Stories.

Right now, the feature is only available to a select group whilst Instagram tests it out. However it is expected to be available to all in the coming months.
