Saudi Arabia’s official ban on internet calling apps ends today

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has formerly announced that from today it will lift its ban on Voice over Internet Protocol calls.

The Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission confirmed to Zawya that applications meet regulatory requirements, resulting in the use of voice and video calls through the internet.

The applications which can now be used include Skype, FaceTime, Snapchat and Tango, however select apps that are not in line with the regulatory requirements will stay blocked.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the move is to raise the level of "transparency and clarity" in telecommunications the sector, as well as provide enhanced services for users.
