The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has launched a new user experience (UX) lab which will help improve the quality of government websites in the UAE.

The UX Lab will be used to assess new websites under development and to test existing websites on their user experience, to improve usability and customer experience.

The service will be available to federal and local government entities, and will be able to test websites or portions of sites, mobile apps and other digital services.

The UX Lab team will work with the government entity that owns the website to test it against UX standards and best practice, and then make recommendations for improvements.

The lab, at the TRA's Dubai headquarters, is equipped with a testing suite and UX testing equipment such as eye trackers, including eye tracking glasses that can be used to test standalone services such as kiosks, as well as testing VR environments and applications.

HE Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, said: "All government efforts are dedicated to achieving customers' happiness, including this initiative, which is part of the leadership's drive to enhance government competitiveness and provide a user experience full of interaction and passion. Taking into consideration, the needs and expectations of users as much as they take into account the objectives of the government and the strategic directions of the state.

"We are pleased to have the user experience lab available to serve all government entities within the UAE, and we hope this will improve the government's digital presence and reflect on the quality, satisfaction and use of government services. We are confident that listening to the needs of users and monitoring their behavior as they browse websites and smart applications will lead to a better understanding of their needs and thus provide the government with much effort to achieve the desired goals.
