Dell Technologies is giving an insight into the progress of digitisation during GITEX Technology Week, with the launch of its Digital Transformation Index.

Conducted in close collaboration with Intel, the DT Index examined the current progress of mid to large-sized companies towards digital transformation.

Based upon responses from business leaders in both the UAE and Saudi Arabia, 87% of responders agree or strongly agree that digital transformation initiatives need to be more wide-spread across their respective organisations.

The DT Index also noted the type of barriers currently impeding digital transformation, which according to the survey affects 90% of businesses in both UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The biggest barriers are data privacy and cybersecurity concerns (42%), lack of in-house skills (30.7%), information overload (29.3%), regulation changes (28.7%), and lastly, lack of budget and resources (26.7%).

Mohammed Amin, senior vice president for Dell EMC for Turkey, Eastern Europe, Africa and Middle East, comments: "The inputs from the UAE and Saudi Arabia paint a picture of a region that is well-aware of the criticality of transformation, and vocal about the need for more widespread transformational initiatives across their organisations. While the challenges ahead are acknowledged and focus areas are prioritised accordingly, the overall view towards technology and its potential for the region remains optimistic."

The IT major is showcasing a wide range of smart applications and technologies at the show, which it says will help customers in delivering on their digital plans, including demonstrations of how IoT solutions can support a typical office environment.

Dell's stand also features a VR station that allows users to try out a virtual training simulator of an industrial command system.
