For the first time in its history, Port Rashid received four cruise ships on a single day.

Aida Stilla, Main Chef 5, MSC Splendida and Coasta Mediterrania, which arrived at the port on Friday, carried a total of 21,411 tourists and 3,849 crew members.

According to a Dubai Media Office statement, this confirms Port Rashid’s readiness to meet the growing demand in the cruise tourism sector and the emirate’s plans to target a million cruise tourists by 2020.

The emirate of Dubai received 157 cruise ships during the 2016-2017 season. This corresponded to an increase of 18%, compared with the figure for the previous season, which was 133. Also, the number of cruise tourists grew 15% to reach 650,000, compared with 516,47 in the last season.

Mohammed Al Mannaei, CEO of P&O Marinas and executive director of Mina Rashid, DP World, said, "The port can receive seven cruise ships simultaneously on a 1900m quay, and has the capacity to receive 18,000 tourists through terminals 2 and 3. Cruise Terminal 3 is the biggest of its type worldwide with a capacity of 14,000 passengers and 125,000sq m of area.”
