Equipment at 37 secondary sanitary water pumping stations in Bahrain are being given a revamp to improve efficiency.

The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs, and Urban Planning is spending $2.7m on the project to bolster the sanitary network and reduce damages, according to Bahrain News Agency.

Sanitary engineering assistant undersecretary for the ministry, Eng. Asma Jassim Murad, said the overhaul aims to ensure the longevity of stations, and safeguard against malfunction.

Murad added: “37 sanitary water pumping stations were chosen for revamping and upgrading the electrical and mechanical equipment.

“As per this project, these stations were provided with new pumps, inner pipes, structures, electrical control panels and sensors. Some stations also had minor civil works done to them.”

Work on stations in Muharraq (7), Manama, Jidhafs and Al Budaiya (20), Sitra, Al-Eker and Alba (7), and Tubli and Riffa (3) is scheduled for completion in September 2019.
