Saudi Arabia appoints ACWA Power-led consortium as preferred bidder for Jubail 3A independent water project

Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) announced that it has appointed a consortium comprising of ACWA Power, Gulf Investment Corporation and Al Bawani Water & Power Company as the preferred bidder for the 600,000 cubic metres per day (m3/day) Jubail 3A IWP (Independent Water Producer) Project.

The IWP would be located south of Jubail City and supply potable water to Riyadh, Qassim and Eastern Provinces, the company said in a press statement posted on its website.

The ACWA consortium submitted the lowest levelised water cost of Saudi Riyals 1.54861 or USD 0.41 per m3 among the prequalified bidders, SWPC announced.

The tariffs submitted by the other three prequalified bidders were 1.59961 or USD 0.43 per m3 by the Marubeni-Marafiq consortium; 1.73542 or USD 0.46 per m3 Aqualia-Haaco-Alfanar consortium and 1.7651 or USD 0.47 per m3 by UTICO as standalone bidder.

The statement said the project will also include reserve storage capacity for one day's production and an on-site solar power plant to reduce the power consumption from the network

The desalination project, which would be based on sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) technology, is scheduled to start commercial operations in 2022, according to information posted on SWPC's website.
